Interprofessional practice is a complex idea. Because of variation across the community, providers, and other resources, what might work in one instance might flounder in another. Training and processes often need to be customized a specific setting. Because of this complexity, research and evaluation is even more important for interprofessional practice.
To support the success of educational and clinical programs, the Center believes in careful evaluation that provides leaders and planners the information needed to improve practice and educational outcomes. The Center strives to be part of a continuously learning health system where information from patients informs science and science in turn impacts patient care through changes in education and practice. The Center studies the basic science of teamwork to inform the construction of educational and clinical programs, and evaluates the impact of its initiatives to define what approaches work and how programs can be modified to make them even more successful.
